Our Team

The RDA team works together to support riders to achieve their goals. Our team consists of the coaches, leaders, sidewalkers, helpers and of course the horses themselves. We liaise with a therapist when needed to insure the best outcomes of our riders.

  • The Coach plans the rider program, organises and leads the sessions that enable the rider to achieve their goals. All other volunteers follow the directions of the coach during the day to insure the best health and safety of everyone involved.

  • The Leader is a skilled horse handler who is responsible of controlling the horse when the rider is not able to.

  • The Sidewalkers ensure the riders safety at all times during sessions while also encouraging and enabling appropriate rider independence.

  • The Horse are chosen based of their ability to help riders achieve their outcomes. Ideal RDA horses are hard to find, not all of them are suited for this specialized work. A lot of time and care goes into their selection and welfare, many hours of training are also needed to ensure they can be correctly matched to their rider and respond to both leader and rider aids. Suitable training programs are developed for each horse to ensure they are at a fitness level suitable for their work.

  • The Therapist sometimes works with our coach, advising on therapeutic goals and strategies for riders.
